The Muffin Man

Hanging on my wall

Well not just yet, but it will be in my new pad. Photo taken by Mr. Juho Lähdesmäki. Can be found on Who Said We Can’t

Pieter Hugo

Some portraits by Pieter Hugo, a South African photographer who I’ve recently discovered. A few of his portraits carry the Terry Richardson feel of harsh highlights / overexposed flash; his subjects vary so much from Terry’s own that I don’t find myself connecting the two. I find that his simplistic yet strong images capture the stark emotions of their subjects. He has also done a series of portraits entitled Looking Aside on people who photographers usually shy away from shooting, such as mentally handicapped, those who are conventionally “ugly” and albino South Africans. The albinos in South Africa face arduous social challenges and Pieter scrupulously captures the pain in his subjects, letting one see their woes through the photographer’s eye.
