Summery
Here are two songs from Planet Mu, one of those labels who are just on-point, especially lately with their killer Juke releases, FaltyDL album, Boxcutter’s latest EP and much more. Both these tunes have summery vibes but in different ways, the first DJ Spinn - LOL, which samples the Isley Brothers’ song, Don’t Say Goodnight. This is one of the few Juke tracks which even though at...

Addison Groove - It's Got Me / Minutes of Funk
Gonna have to cop this not just for the awesome tunes but for the killer record sleeve. Out soon on 3024. If you don’t know them, here’s a bit of info on them and an interview with Martyn, the label’s founder. (And if you don’t know Martyn, shame on you)

Sundays
Museuming, hangovering, lagging. Listening to Mount Kimbie and zoning out.. It seems this years going by too fast, just like the last one did.. Soon enough it’ll be summer and then back to reality..

Shawty What Your Name Is
Hotdamn, just heard this over at Discobelle’s blog. Upcoming single by Helsinki producer Teeth out on 502 Recordings. This is ticking all the right boxes for me right now. Sensual female vocals: Check Dreamy synths: Check Hip Hop instrumentals with a 2-Step/Funky/Ghetto touch: Check Beyoncé: Oh check. Give it a listen, it gets sonically sweeter at 2:05 onwards. props to Juuso for...

Freebies
Off to bed, have to catch an early train to Paris tomorrow but before I leave here’s a download link to a free EP given away by S-X. Firstly if you don’t know who S-X is, he released the (simple) but killer track Woooo. Essential instrumental grime from 2010.  A few of the tracks on the giveaway EP are a bit “samey” because of some slightly annoying wailing vocal sample...

I know, I know..
It’s been too long since my last post but there’s been a lot going on that’s been taking my time away from my blog but more on that later. Here are my favourite releases of January the beginning of 2011. Do listen, buy, dance.. (and click through the pics to listen to a track off the record) Julio Bashmore - Everybody Needs a Theme Tune Julio Bashmore had a fantastic...

Darkness
It’s impossible to think that this time 5 months ago it was summer. The memories of cold beers, parks and limitless don’t seem to fit with the image of Helsinki now. Several feet of snow, cold winds and everyone in a state of pissed off depression. I’ve been managing (just barely) by drinking plenty of tea and minimising my walking distances between places. Right now I’ve...

Slow Sunday
Firstly I’d like to say that as of late I have been quite disconnected from my blog due to the loss of my Macbook Pro for the past few weeks, anyhow my brains to slow to think of much or be bothered to do anything so here are a few slow jams for a lazy Sunday. Classic RnB, nuff said.

Simple
Is it possible for something as solemn as a gravestone to also be clean and classy, it seems this one is. It might be too ironic to have my tombstone use Helvetica but Rotis Serif works as well as seen in this, devoted to Anthony H Wilson, the founder of the great label Factory Records, which featured many great acts, most notably one of my favourite bands, Joy Division.

Currently Watching: Lucifer Rising
Short film from 1972 directed by Kenneth Anger, famous for other films such as Scorpion Rising, Invocation of My Demon Brother and Fireworks. His work is notable for homoeroticism at a time when homophobia was rampant in mainstream culture. Other notable characteristics of his films are the use of experimental editing and filming techniques and the frequent exploration of the darker sides of...

It's come down to this
Trust Charlie Mindu to send a girl down the runway fully nude except for what appears to be a hat of sorts. I guess fashion sometimes reaches the point where this is your f**k you to the system, although instead of caring, people laugh and everyone realises this has been done a million times before.

House
Was slightly bored so did a new mixtape, this time something slightly different and went all House. I’m tired of hearing people say House is a boring genre, if you think House is boring then you haven’t dug into the sub-genres and layers it has to offer. Especially in the past two years the explosive rise of Tech House has helped redefine the genre. The uneducated in the genre assume...

Sometimes you need to slow down
Last weekend was hectic and crazy, albeit in a good way but needless to say after a three day escapade it’s time to be in a more mellow mood. Been insanely busy trying to fit in everything I need to do before Sunday (seeing people, packing, sorting out my new place etc). But right now I have nothing. It’s nice to relax at times.  Soundtrack of my day

Fiasco Magazine September/October
Entitled The Face Issue, three different covers have been shot for the magazine, each featuring a portrait of either Luke Worrall, Yuri Pleskun or Ash Stymest. Really dislike the picture of Worrall but both Stymest’s and Pleskun’s shots are great. On a sidenote, I’ve only just realised Ash has new tattoos (on his fingers, spelling out mischief). What else would you expect?

Pressies
So out of the blue my dad bought me the Wood Wood leather laptop case I’ve been eyeing up for a while, it’s the dark brown one, not this one I posted about a few months back but either way now I have no excuse to not protect my laptop.  Danke Vater!

Lazy
Lately I’ve been too busy, lazy, tired and disconnected [from Tumblr] that it’s been a while since my last post. Some nice things have happened since my last post, mostly partying every day, meeting new people and having fun. My mates from Emperatron released their much awaited EP, I’ve played twice at Club YK at Head Over Heels; the new indie/electro/hipster event every Tuesday...

Proxy - Vibrate EP
Totally forgot this dropped on Tuesday, been listening to it for the past few minutes and oh God this is sick, classic Proxy sound, dirty and hard. I think the cherry on top of the amazing title track is the well used cowbell sample (yes cowbells can be used non ironically). Click the artwork to listen to Sound of Stereos’ remix of Vibrate. And click the totally unrelated picture from...

Night Slugs
One of my favourite record labels at the moment, London based Night Slugs releases bass music that isn’t the same tired wobble-wobble we’ve been hearing for the past year (and although I hate the “Bass” category it’s hard to label an eclectic mix of Dubstep, UK Funky, Garage, Tribal etc so for now it shall just be “Bass”). Fresh and interesting artists...

Impulsive
Compulsive. Just ordered some shoes (why? I don’t know but you can’t ever have too many shoes). I’m usually an ardent devotee to Nike SB shoes (except for my All-Stars) but decided to go with something new so picked up some New Balance 420s; taking it old school with these.
